Word from our Coaches

FUNdamentals

Fundamentals training groups have completed our first swim meet of the season! This took place on November 2nd and we had many personal bests, smiles, underwaters and great dives. Thank you to all our parent and sibling volunteers at both meets for making this possible, we appreciate you. Great job to all swimmers and leading into our next meet we are working on legal dolphin kick and BR kick!

Swimmers should have brought home last week our first swim cards prepared by coaches. Please see this for personal comments and achievements.

Blue

Blue has been increasing our metres and doing more difficult workouts, and the swimmers are rising to the challenge!

Our swimmer shout-out is Jude, who recently graduated from NovaTech and has made leaps and bounds in his technique.

Gold

It has been a great month for the Gold swimmers! We’ve had a chance to get up and race a number of times in October, including at the distance meet, where Egor T., Freddy L., Micah B., and Bowen L. all did a great job racing their 800 FR! We also had 8 Gold swimmers (or more than half the group), take time out of their Saturday afternoon to volunteer to ensure the first NovaTech meet of the season ran smoothly! We received many compliments on the support that the swimmers provided that day.

This month I’d like to highlight Bridgette R., as she has been doing an incredible job in training these last few weeks, with both challenging herself and making sure her technique is correct!

Junior

The Junior Group has had a great few training weeks. As we build on our foundation of technique the Juniors have been challenged with pace work and understanding race pace and best average while continuing to maintain technique over longer periods of swimming. The Juniors have attended three meets so far this season: The DAL Relay and Sprint meet, The Distance meet, and the AG #2 Acadia meet. At each meet there were lots of best times, cheering, and positive attitudes towards racing. At the Age Group #2 meet, the girls 11-12    4 x 50 medley relay of Lily Z., Julia C., Cohen C., and Pippa F.broke the club record which has stood since 2008!

This month I would like to highlight Aoife C. Aoife consistently displays an excellent work ethic which has really paid off in her technical improvements and big best times so far this season. Aoife is constantly challenging herself and improving in practice, and has excellent attendance. She has made especially big improvements to her freestyle and butterfly through her hard work at each and every practice.

Senior

The Senior group has been hard at work over the past month both at home and out of Province representing the club. Luke Ellis travelled to Ontario to train and race with the Barrie Trojans. Luke gained some great training and racing experience with his big takeaway being how fast everyone trains in Ontario. We also had a large group of Senior athletes travel to UNB to take part in a recruitment weekend. Clark Barnett, Emma Mullet, Leon Bautista, Claira Kilpatrick, Idan Arie, and Rylee Crowthers all made the trip. Swimmers enjoyed working with Coach Marta and experiencing several varsity workouts. Finally Our Senior Prospects swimmers welcomed SWAT for a few combined workouts at our home pool which has been another opportunity to up our training intensity.

Several of our senior athletes have really been stepping up their training and going outside their comfort zone with new and challenging pace times. A big shout out to Lauren Trenholm, Josh Tumampil, and Sophia Croft, Eric Schillinger, and Livi Peterson for putting in some hard work this month.
